AUSTRALIAN IMMIGRATION NEWS
Australia to simplify Temporary Work Visa Process

According to a recent announcement on 17 Dec 2010, Australian Government is committed to simplifying the Temporary Work Visa process by reducing the number of different visas available.

The new model for temporary work visas is intended to provide a simpler process for immigrants who wish to apply for an Australian temporary work visa. The visa simplification would not affect current eligibility and would make it easier for applicants to understand the requirements.

"The Government has considered submissions made in response to the initial discussion paper and has drawn up its proposed model for visa simplification", said Minister for Immigration and Citizenship Mr. Chris Bowen.

There are currently 18 different categories of short term working visa in Australia. The Australian Government's planned changes aim to reduce that number by 50 percent to nine, by 2012. In addition, Mr. Bowen stated that the total number of Australian visa subclasses would decrease by 50 percent by 2015.

Australia's temporary work visa simplification is part of an overall plan to simplify the Australian immigration system. According to DIAC, the changes are part of a broader effort aimed at "cutting the red tape burden and recognizing that Australia's immigration system is an important source of skilled labour which contributes to productivity improvements and economic growth".
